ColdShot
Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 14, 2026
This policy describes ColdShot 1.0 for macOS. Screenshots, GIF recordings are processed on your Mac. ColdShot does not upload your captures, clipboard contents, file names, or usage information to the developer or an analytics service.
Data collection
ColdShot 1.0 does not collect personal data or usage analytics. It does not require an account or include advertising, third-party analytics, or tracking SDKs. It does not send installation or version reports. Capturing your screen does not require an internet connection.
Screen access
ColdShot uses macOS Screen Recording permission to capture your screen when you request a screenshot or start a GIF recording. Screen images let you select and annotate a region.
You can withdraw Screen Recording permission in System Settings → Privacy & Security. Capturing your screen will then be unavailable until you grant permission again.
Files and clipboard
Captures are saved to a location you choose or copied to the clipboard at your request. ColdShot remembers permission to access your chosen save folder so Quick Save and GIF recording can save there again. You can choose a different folder in Settings.
Other apps may access content you copy to the clipboard or share by dragging a capture into them. Files saved in a cloud-synced folder may be uploaded by your cloud provider, according to its settings and privacy policy. ColdShot does not upload those files itself.
Local storage and deletion
- Recent Captures: when enabled, ColdShot keeps up to ten image copies and references to saved files on your Mac. Choose Clear Recent Captures in the menu or turn off Remember recent captures in Settings to remove this history and its cached images. This does not delete files you saved to your own folders.
- Saved screenshots and GIFs: these remain in the folders you chose until you delete them using Finder or another app.
- Settings: preferences, keyboard shortcuts, saved folder permissions, and counters used to time review requests are stored locally. These settings are not uploaded.
- Temporary files: ColdShot uses local temporary files for GIF creation and dragging captures. Some temporary copies may remain until macOS or you remove them.
Apple services and external links
App Store downloads, reviews, and any diagnostics you choose to share with Apple are handled by Apple under its own privacy policy. Opening an external link takes you to a service governed by that service's policy.
